“Long, Long, Long” is not one of my favorite Beatles songs. It closes out side 3 of The Beatles (the White Album) and provides a decent respite from the previous song of “Helter Skelter” it serves as a segue for the slog that winds up being the final stretch of the double album.
BeatleSongs tells us it was recorded over three days in October of 1968 and is rather unremarkable save for a rattling bottle on top of a speaker that can be heard on the recording from Paul McCartney hitting certain notes on the organ towards the end of the song. Tell Me Why uses the word “restraint” and doesn’t really have much to say other than it is the least of the songs George has on the album (one per side).
Today was a pretty remarkable day. We committed to going to Ireland. For a month. Not just my wife and I, but we’re taking all the kids.
I have 5 kids.
The reality of it is, since Kyle is in college, he will not travel with us and may not be there the whole time. Still, we are all going.
From Seattle to Chicago to Dublin. At the time of travel, our young children will be 3, 5, 7 and 10. Ciárán will have his 6th birthday there. We leave June 24 and come back July 28th.
It’s going to be a long trip and we’re going to be there a long time.
Updates to follow.
