The kids don’t have school tomorrow, Friday, the day before Valentine’s Day. As such they will be doing their “celebration” this afternoon (though as this is getting posted it already happened). Everybody in his class, according to August, is creating a special box to hold their valentines in. Instead of simply having a plain bag kids are going to make creations worthy of being judged. He told me a few of the ideas that some of the kids were going to execute and I was skeptical, but knew that decorating the valentine receptacle is a tradition and if the 5th grade want to increase the challenge, so be it.
Originally August wanted to create a TARDIS but couldn’t get the supplies to match his vision in the time he had. He then went in a completely different route. The same box with a mess of toilet paper – a mummy. A hole for the mouth for kids to feed the mummy their valentine and some toilet roll tubes for arms. Well, see for yourself. It turned out pretty darn good. So good in fact he won 1st place for “creative” – one kid had LEGO bricks made of boxes, one had a Minecraft creeper made of cardboard, and another had the USS Enterprise (original series version). Good company to be in.
As I dropped Xavier off for preschool we ran into August. Here is a picture of August and Tevye. I’ll have more pictures tomorrow.
