This was the last year that Ciáran would be going to Cub Scout resident camp, and the week we went also happened to include his birthday. Oh, we made sure it was memorable.
As you might expect, one of the first stops as soon as possible was the climbing wall.
And that is Xavier climbing the wall next to Ciáran.
New this year to the program was cooking. The kids would put the ingredients into a dutch oven, and would reap the rewards of the previous rotation’s offering.
Of course there was time at the BB range. Xavier would go on to earn the Shooting Sports badge for this activity.
Both kids ate the heck out of the food, which is always nice.
The boys also had a rotation in the crafts lodge.
Xavier spent some extra time at the archery range. He would also earn his shooting sports badge for this activity as well.
This was the first time we actually spent time in the lake swimming around during that rotation as the lake wasn’t as cold as it has been in years previous and our rotation was scheduled for the afternoon.
For our campsite’s campfire Ciáran helped to light it.
Then there was the midnight climb (at 9) and of course Ciáran made sure to get in line early for that.
Here is a video of the two of them.
The next morning was Ciáran’s birthday. Here is how he was woken up.
Xavier spent even more time at the archery range.
For lunch the rest of the family came up and the camp sang “Happy Birthday”.
As with every year there was a rotation on the lake in a boat.
And finally the Chief Joe Race (oh yeah!) and this year Ciáran helped with the first aid portion of the relay. I couldn’t get to Xavier in time to watch his section, he was too fast.
Just about ready to head home.
Of course Xavier fell asleep on the way home.
That evening we celebrated Ciáran’s birthday at home. We found this cake at the store, one that had been “Frankensteined” out of other cakes.
I wish I could remember what gift this was.
