Return Of The Blog

I know I’m not the greatest and most reliable of blog writers. I have a pretty good excuse, really. Running the website takes a lot of my time, plus my kids, since I’m one of those “involved” parents I wind up actually spending a lot of my time with them. Lately it’s been more time because they have been sick – again. Or still. Whatever. It’s just another in an absurdly long line of ear infections and upper repertory infections. One of my three younger kids gets something, then a week later another, then a week after that another, by which time the first is usually well enough to get sick again.

If it is any consolation, and I know it really isn’t, my life isn’t that exciting. Most of what I’ve been doing is already posted on the website. I don’t get to go out much at all, so my entertainment consists of DVDs and Blu-rays for review as well as a few television programs. I don’t get to do much in the way of anything worth writing about – though that is going to change shortly. Thursday I am scheduled to head down to Los Angeles for a Wanted: Weapons of Fate event. I’m looking forward to getting out of the house, but the cost of doing so is going to be astronomical. My flight leaves Seattle at 6am or so, rush down to the event, and then catch an 8PM flight home. Yes, in and out the same day.

I would have very much liked to have taken the people up on the offer of flying in on Wednesday evening and flying out on Friday morning with the hotel taken care of, but It’s the circumstances in that first paragraph that prevent me from doing so. I know I’d actually get a lot more work done in the hotel room, but I have to be home to help take care of the kids, which is something that I don’t mind. I actually enjoy it. No, I don’t enjoy when my kids are sick, but I really enjoy spending time with each of them.

While several of my first blog entries centered around the music I was ripping from CD to MP3, that has come to a halt. There are a couple of reasons for this, but primarily it is due to storage. During this year’s CES several companies promised me review units of external hard drives. My plan was to use my MP3 collection to test these out and write about my experience using them. Unfortunately, noting ever came of it and I have no storage capacity for my music collection. I have thousands of CDs and just a few hundred of them have crippled my computer’s storage capacity and speed. I am hoping some company steps up soon with a solution.

What movies have I seen? Whatever has peen reviewed on the website. I don’t rent movies anymore and don’t have much time for going out to the theaters. That will change in a year or so when Ciaran is a bit older. What games have I played? Not many, unfortunately. I’m only playing games for review at this point, and am currently working through Puzzle Quest: Galactrix on the Nintendo DS and Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection for the PlayStation 3. My completely unofficial preliminary comments are that the Ds version of Galactrix is marred by a faulty interface so get a different version, and the Genesis collection is a must-have. I hope to get Matt Hazard started up shortly because it looks fun.

I suppose I should quit now, as I’m sure that nobody has had the patience to read this far. If you have, then you’re a glutton for punishment. I promise my next blog entry will not only come along a lot sooner, but be a bit more interesting with a lot less whining.
