Having A Good Time

Well, I don’t know about you, but I had a good weekend. It didn’t turn out as I had planned, but still, I think it went well. Nobody broke a bone, nothing in the house was damaged, and the neighbors didn’t call the cops. At least as far as we know so far.

Saturday my youngest brother was supposed to come down about 3 in the afternoon, and we would hang out for a couple of hours, go to Mass, have dinner, then go see X-Men Origins: Wolverine after I helped put the kids to bed. Most of the morning was spent working on an art project that didn’t turn out as planned so I won’t go into detail about that. At the last minute Kagan (the idjit youngest brother) bailed leaving me in the lurc for going out. That’s alright, really, because I was able to watch more episodes of Lost Saturday night.

Sunday my wife went to Costco while I stayed home with the kids. I tried to get a little bit of work done, but the website wasn’t working properly. I shot an email off to the people that could do something about it and hung out with August and Déla (my 6 and 3 year olds). Then I spent a little bit of time trying to play Rock band Unplugged for the PSP. Actually a much more fun game than I had thought it would be.

In the afternoon I took August to see Up. Calling Kagan, I wasn’t sure if he would be available or if he would not be around or whatever. He’s 23 and not always the most reliable (see the earlier paragraph). Turns out he was around and available. August and I picked him up and went to the theater. My wife had purchased tickets to the the chain at Costco, and I had a free ticket voucher to Up. Three people, three tickets – or so I thought.

The film I was going to see (the aforementioned Up) was going to be shown in 3D. This meant that there would be a surcharge on the tickets. The generic movie theater chain tickets would cover the cost of the admission, but not the surcharge for the 3D. The voucher for the film would also do the same, and require the same additional charge that would not be covered. I had my credit card out and ready to pay for the surcharges not covered. The stuff picked up at Costco was just fine, but the Up voucher proved to be a problem. Something simply wouldn’t “take” in their system. After more than 10 minutes of them trying to get the thing to work things were simply not going well. The computer had to be rebooted even. I was beginning to feel bad for the manager that was called in to help figure it out. I was also getting anxious because the movie was about to start. Finally the manager gave us our tickets and thanked us for being patient. This was at the new Regal Cinemas Thornton Place 14. It’s the new theater here in Seattle, and I want to say I had a very pleasant customer service experience there.

As for the film itself, it was very good. The 3D was great, but simply icing on the cake. Pixar turned in a great story, perhaps one of the best they’ve done. I’ll save my complete thoughts on the film for the DVD/Blu-ray review, but will say that I cried – twice.

After having a wonderful barbeque dinner Laura and I did our usual bath and bedtime routine with the kids. Then Déla decided to be a complete ass and have a fit over nothing and got sent to be early, screaming. We wound up putting August in our room until we went to bed. When we went up to bed we moved August back into his own bed – in the room he shares with Déla.

It may not have been the most productive of weekends, but it wasn’t bad.
