Wednesday there won’t be any updates to the website, as I’ll be on vacation. It’s not a big vacation, but one that is necessary. We’ve been talking about this for ages, and now we are finally going to be able to do it.
We don’t get to take many trips, partly out of financial constraints, but also logistical. With as many kids as we do, and as young as they are, working around nap schedules as well as lugging around as many diapers as we do, well, it just doesn’t always work.
So what are we doing for a vacation? We’re not going far – just a couple of hours south to Mount St. Helens. We’re taking two days, spending the night in a hotel. The first day we’re driving down, taking a look at the west side, then the hotel, with the next day driving around to the east side then back home. At least that’s the plan.
Having lived in Washington for as long as I have (since 1980, a few months after the eruption) it is somewhat surprising that I haven’t gone. I’m really excited about going. August, at the age of 6, has this year become really aware of volcanoes, and to have one that has erupted so close to home is almost too much to handle for him. He is the most excited of all of us.
Wednesday is the day when we’ll be on the road, so I won’t be able to check email, post news, or generally get any work done – and I’ll love every minute of it. Wednesday night I’ll be at the hotel and I can catch up a little on some writing and I’ll have it set up to post on Thursday. Since I’ll be home sometime on Thursday, I’ll be able to get back to posting.
