30 Days Of Song – Day 15

Day 15 – A Song That Describes You
“Domesticated Blind” – Odds

This was another tough assignment for this 30 days exercise. There are some songs I could have picked that would have been appropriate for various periods of my life, but at my age, many of them seem trite and overly simplistic as descriptors. For several years I would have picked “Outsider” by The Ramones. I could also pick “When I’m 64” by The Beatles to describe my married life and hoping the two us are together 20 years from now, but that seems rather dumb. Of course “Minimum Wage” by They Might Be Giants would have been a great descriptor many years ago. Queen’s “Somebody To Love” would have fit in my 20s.

So I Pick “Domesticated Blind” by Odds, which is a fairly obvious choice, since so much of my time is taken up with family life. I used to be a bit of a “rabble rouser” staying out late and what not. I was politically active as well. These days, staying up to watch the 10 O’Clock news is a late night. I have 4 small children at home, 1 in college, and as the lyrics go, “Ain’t got no time for the world around us” since my life is filled enough as it is.

And I like it. I chose this, and am happy with where I am in my life. Are you?
