Day 17 – A Song You hear Often On The Radio
“Ace of Hz” – Ladytron
I don’t listen to the radio much these days. Lately, when I do listen, it’s the local dance music station. According to Rolling Stone it is one of the most influential in the country. Go figure. KNHC 89.5 from Seattle is a student run operation from Nathan Hale High School, where aside from a few adult advisors virtually everything is done by students. Unlike most college radio stations (do those even exist anymore) this really is much more “amateur hour” in many ways, but the music speaks for itself.
So what does this have to do with anything? I’m tired of all the “blah blah blah” on commercial radio stations where they play the same 10 songs, regardless of format. There’s an excellent commercial free public radio station (KEXP 90.3) but I get tired of not recognizing any of the music on there. Besides, most of the time I’m listening to the radio it’s in the car on the way to take the kids to one thing or another, and some mopey jangly guitar thing just won’t cut it. They want to hear something upbeat.
Most of the stuff I hear on KNHC is disposable, meaning it’s nothing that I really care about, but don’t mind if it’s on. There are a couple of songs, however, that I do actually like. This is one of them.
