Day 19 – A Song From Your Favorite Album
“Sin 73” – The Splatcats
Alright, so this isn’t necessarily my favorite album, but it’s close. I have several thousand albums here, and picking just one is next to impossible. There are so many great albums that I could have easily picked any number of them and it would be understandable why I picked it. One By One by the Foo Fighters. Too Tough To Die by The Ramones. Rubber Soul by The Beatles. Synchronicity by The Police. All great, all having a place among what I consider favorite albums of all time (among others).
So why did I choose this one? Partially because nobody has ever heard of it. As a matter of fact, I only stumbled upon the record by chance. It was at a period in my life when I had more money and time on my hands than responsibility. I was hanging out at a record store, talking with the owner, whom I was becoming friends with, browsing the stacks, and picking up 4 or 5 records at a time. I came across Sin 73, which had an interesting cover and a few song titles that sounded interesting (“Surfing Hearse” particularly). I decided to go ahead and spend the couple of bucks and take a chance on the album.
I immediately liked the album on the first listen, and it has since become one of my “go to” albums over the last 20-some years. I never travel without having it available, either the CD (which was hard to find and is most likely a bootleg) or MP3. The band made one other album before breaking up. I never got to see them or get much information about them. Sin 73 is an anomaly in my record collection. I know next to nothing about the group, but have this wonderful offering of garage-style rock and roll. I love this album and hope you enjoy the title track from it.
