30 Days Of Song – Day 30

Day 30 – Your Favorite Song This Time Last Year

“Breaking The Law” – Judas Priest

Last year was the 30th anniversary of the album “British Steel” by Judas Priest, an album that pretty much would be the blueprint for heavy metal for much of the 80s. I picked up a couple of Judas Priest cassettes back when… well, it was the 80s. Anyway, I only had a couple of them, and they wound up either getting stolen or lost through various moves and what not. As a result, I sort of lost track of the band, especially after singer Rob Halford left.

As the 90s came and went, my musical horizons expanded greatly. I wound up buying a lot of newer music and concerning myself with a lot less “catalog” stuff. Then in the last decade I’ve just been so busy raising kids, I’ve lost touch with much of what has been going on in music. I was aware that Rob Halford had rejoined Judas Priest, but didn’t know they had released two albums under the reunited lineup.

Then “British Steel” was remastered and reissued. I figured this would be a great time to pick that album up, as I was sort of reawakened in my awareness of the band, and I was eager to strike while the iron was hot (so to speak). I didn’t want to happen what usually does, that I forget all about an album or band because I’m too distracted with life.

I had forgotten how much I enjoyed this album. I played it a lot when I purchased it (again) last year. As my delinquent son was graduating high school, one of his graduation presents was a nice phone that does all sorts of things. Apparently they are referred to as Smart Phones, but I think they are only as smart as the user.

Anyway…

Because of the many troubles we have had with our oldest son, I decided to make a ringtone for when he called me. This song seemed appropriate, and I was listening to this album a lot.
