“Don’t Bother Me” was written by George and appears on With The Beatles, their second album. It is the first song written by George to appear on a Beatles album. It was not, however, the first George Harrison vocal appearance or Harrison song to be recorded.
Tell Me Why considers this a “weak songwriting debut” with George “being carried by the others.” BeatleSongs tells us Harrison wrote the song while sick in bed, but an music editor at the time disagrees saying it was written just to shut him up.
It’s important to know that I’m writing this before Christmas. What I am presenting is a scenario that I hope will happen, but likely will not.
Christmas Eve we attend Mass as a family in the late afternoon/evening. This is done in conjunction with dinner in a way so as to make sure the kids are in bed a little bit late so as to have them hopefully sleep a little bit. It doesn’t always work. 2 years ago at 4 in the morning on Christmas we heard Ciárán, then age 3, downstairs playing with the drum kit Santa delivered.
After the 6pm Mass, before which the kids will get a very large snack, we’ll have another large snack, probably forgoing a formal dinner eating up the various leftovers we have. Hopefully the kids will all be in bed by 9. I will be working as an usher during the midnight mass, and will be home about 1:30am. I will be assisting with the Santa presentations to have them ready for when the kids do wake up and hopefully will be in bed by 2am.
I keep hoping the kids won’t wake up until 7, but that just never happens. 6am is my absolute limit. If the kids get up before then, I tell them to go back to bed. Or, as George Harrison wrote in the song – “Leave me alone, don’t bother me.”
