Tell Me Why refers to the song as “harmless” and Beatleongs mentions it was inspired by George’s then wife Patti. It’s a simple song, pretty much a love song.
It’s been released twice, originally on the soundtrack album Let It Be and then again on Let It Be… Naked. The more recently released version is truer to how it was recorded and intended to be heard.
Another more stripped down version is also available on Anthology 3.
Regardless, it’s a simple song, and one that might only be notable for being the B-side to the final Beatles single released while the band was together (several singles would be released over the next few decades promoting various compilations or whatever).
Christmas was an alright day in our house. It started rather early, actually, for me. I was an usher for Midnight Mass, our parish hosts literally one of the only true Christmas Midnight Masses in the greater Seattle area. Because our priest is the celebrant for the evening masses as well as the one on Christmas morning, he doesn’t actually do the Midnight Mass.
All of that is background for how Christmas started out for me – the priest didn’t show up. It was an interesting adaptation that I won’t go into, but it was stressful and an evening I won’t forget for some time to come. After helping to close up the church, return home, set up *ahem* stuff (ho ho ho) I finally got to bed some time after 2am.
Xavier woke up just before 6.
While I was able to put Xavier back to bed, I was not able to fully get back to sleep, part of that was knowing Xavier wasn’t actually going back to sleep himself. I half expected to have the other kids get up, but they didn’t until almost 7am (like I had asked them to the night before). I may not have actually slept, but that extra rest was beneficial.
The usual Christmas morning activities ensued, with stockings, pumpkin bread pudding, the grandparents, presents, etc. In the afternoon while the kids were busy assembling LEGO sets or whatever, I lay down for a couple of hours. I was so tired I was beginning to shake, so that was a greatly appreciated rest. Indian food takeout for dinner, and the evening wrapped up with watching the latest “Doctor Who” Christmas episode.
All in all, not a bad Christmas. Simple and filled with family.
I leave you with – kitty in a bag.
