“Something” was recorded for the Abbey Road album, and would be the only track by Harrison to be released as a single and reach the charts (any other song he wrote that was released as a single was as a b-side). Tell Me Why has a lot of praise for the song (almost 2 full pages) despite the “schmaltzy tone” stating that “George’s romanticism has a stately touch.” BeatleSongs tells us John was recovering from a car crash and did not participate in the recording, and that George wrote it during the White Album sessions.
At times it is very difficult to come up with something to write about. I enjoy writing these Beatles Week posts immensely, but it can be horribly frustrating as well. Mark, the originator, did it four times. but never quite got it together to do one post a day. This is my fourth time doing it, and I certainly don’t want to give it up. It’s a great exercise, and a wonderful way to pay a little tribute to one of my favorite bands. Still, coming up with something to write about that is fit for public consumption can be difficult.
Most of the time I blog when I have something to say, such as an event or a strong opinion about something. I did a couple of other exercises where I was to post every day. One was last year’s National Blog Post Month. Another, from earlier last year, was 30 Days Of Song. Both were difficult and perhaps helped me as a blogger, but I was ultimately left feeling a little disillusioned at the end of both projects.
I had the opportunity to participate in a couple of other month long blog projects since then, but decided against it. I’m not ready to tackle something like that again just yet. Perhaps, now that I’ve finally launched this as a stand-alone dadblog I’ll be able to think about tackling a project such as those again in the future, but not just yet.
Eight days is hard enough. Besides, my readership isn’t enough to warrant that much content – I’m stretching it as it is with 8 days of Beatles Week.
