Bubble Guppies: On The Job

Bubble Guppies On The Job DVDI hate the “Bubble Guppies” theme. Not because it’s bad, but because it’s so simple and infectious if I hear it once, it get stuck in my head all day. Now with Bubble Guppies: On The Job I am afraid I may have it stuck in my head all week. This DVD features 6 episodes from the “Bubble Guppies” series on Nick Jr., and while at first I didn’t care for the show, I’ve grown to like it over the last few months.

Except for that theme song.

Here’s the list of episodes:

“Fishketball”

“A Tooth On The Looth”

“Build Me A Building”

“The Grumpfish Special”

“Call A Clambulance”

“Firefighter Gil To The Rescue”

The idea with this collection (culled from the last 2 years of the series) is to focus on six professions. “Fishketball” doesn’t quite fit the bill. Instead the other episodes feature dentist, firefighter, food service, doctor and construction worker. It’s almost like a set-up for a Nick Jr. Village People.

One of the things I like about “Bubble Guppies” is the kids are all in a classroom. There are occasionally science themes explored, and often the series simply explores the world. There’s some good humor that doesn’t talk down to kids, and while there is a formula, it’s not always strictly adhered to, leaving the door open for things to be different. I like that. While I have a daily routine for my kids, it’s not always exactly the same, and this show reflects that.

It isn’t the most educational of programs, but it is enjoyable. At 2 hours of content Bubble Guppies: On The Job is certainly worth checking out. If you have a little one who is a fan of the series, then certainly you’ll want to pick it up.
