Phineas And Ferb – The Perry Files: Animal Agents

phineas ferb animal agentsWe love “Phineas And Ferb” at my house. The crazy antics are a hit with the kids, and I love the positive energy. There is some classic comedy stylings as well as music, some intrigue with Secret Agent Perry, and just about everything. “Phineas And Ferb” seems to be a sort of “kitchen sink” show where just about everything is tossed in, and somehow it all works.

The latest DVD release compiles several episode segments (24 minute show, divided into two 11 minute segments, as is the norm for these types of programs) from the course of the series. Phineas And Ferb – The Perry Files: Animal Agents would appear to compile a cross section of segments that feature some of Secret Agent Perry’s animal peers, but that’s true for only a handful of them – which is a shame because it’s sort of false advertising. Still, getting past this, the DVD offers up plenty of fun.

Here is the list of episode segments on the DVD:

Journey To The Center Of Candace

Traffic Cam Caper

Bowl-R-Ama Drama

Vanessassary Roughness

Isabella And The Temple Of Sap

Cheer up Candace

Robot Rodeo

Lotsa Latkes

Agent Doof

Where’s Perry (Parts 1 & 2)

What’d I Miss

The first episode features Agent Pinky the Chihuahua, the second a cameo of sorts by several agents with Agent H (Herman The Hedgehog) appearing in the third. I don’t remember seeing a different agent in the 4th segment, but it’s one of my favorites because it really concentrates on the characters – especially Ferb’s admiration for Dr. Doofenshmirtz’s daughter. The next one is also one of the better ones (they all are good though) focusing on Isabella and her Fireside girls (and an appearance by several agents as well). The next segment features a couple of other agents, but then Agent Doof doesn’t. Where’s Perry takes the cast to Africa and offers up a solid story and a possible elephant agent. The last episode features a rhinoceros as the additional agent (who also showed up in the previous segment).

If you’re not familiar with the show, the theme song will quickly catch you up. There are 104 days of summer vacation and these two boys intend to make the most of them. This would be enough for any ordinary show, but add to this the evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz constantly attempting to take over the tri-state area as being foiled by the Organization Without A Cool Acronym (O.W.C.A.) and you get something very different. What ties these two seemingly disparate concepts is Perry, the platypus secret agent tasked with taking down Dr. Doofenshmirtz, but also happens to be the pet to Phineas and Ferb.

The DVD is packed in with a cardboard spy binocular set, which is sort of fun, but unfortunately my kids all fight over who gets to use it. Better are the “Take Two With Phineas And Ferb” segments that occasionally air on Disney XD. Here various celebrities show up and dow 4 minute interviews with the cartoon figures. Here the list includes Cedric the Entertainer, David Beckham, Jason Segel, Shaun White, Miss Piggy and Ben Stiller. These are very much worth checking out.

There’s over 2 hours of content for a decent price. This is one of the cartoons created and while it would be better to have season sets or volumes, fans will certainly want to add this to their collection. For those that aren’t fans, this might be the time to check it out.
