Yesterday I spent some time continuing to rip my CDs to MP3. Yes, this is a project that I am continuing to work on, one that was the subject of my first blog post over 4 years ago. This time it was mostly my collection of Dead Milkmen and Depeche Mode. The two bands have crossed paths before on this blog, and the irony did not escape me.
I was surprised to own as much Depeche Mode as I do. Out of the 13 studio albums by the band (including the most recent release) I have 9 of them. Granted, 6 of them are from the 80s.
What prompted this activity? My friend Stephen returned a Depeche Mode album that I had only listened to once – Exciter. I wanted to listen to it and some of the other material the band has issued over the years. We are going to be seeing the band later this summer, but that’s for another blog post.
I gathered up my Depeche Mode albums, scouring my collection which is in disarray due to having a toddler in the house. While I was finding my various Depeche Mode discs I kept coming across my Dead Milkmen collection, so I decided to take the karmic hint and rip both bands.
Wow, that second album from 30 years ago is rough. As for Exciter? That was 3 albums and 10 years ago. It has a couple of good albums, but it’s not great. I really would like to pick up these last 4 albums I don’t have and give them a listen.
