Up And Down And Up And Down

Dear Xavier,

I love you. I really do. But this is getting ridiculous. I sort of understand the issues about not wanting to go to sleep and getting out of bed, and you’re not the first kid to do that. You get out of bed, I put you back. We do this several times until you fall asleep. I get it. You’re just learning. And I’m trying to have patience with the process.

It’s when you wake up at 3 in the morning and we start this all over – that’s where we are having problems.

See, I need my sleep in order to be on my best behavior for you. I am more patient when I’m not over tired. Heck, you are too. When I put you back to bed at 3 in the morning, you really should stay there. I shouldn’t have to get up at 3:10, 3:30, 3:45, 4:00, 4:05, 4:20 and 4:30 to put you back in bed.

You’re a great kid. It’s amazing how quickly the time has flown by. I almost can’t believe you turn 3 years old in just a couple of weeks!

If you keep waking up at 3 in the morning and not going back to bed one of us isn’t going to make it.
