So there was the box, waiting to be opened. Hasbro had sent over some Iron Man 3 toys, and the kids couldn’t wait to get into them. As with any new toys, the kids fought over them. None more so than the Arc FX Mission Mask.
Not yet having seen the movie, I can’t tell if this toy directly represents an aspect of the Iron Man armor from the film. I can tell you, however, my kids really enjoyed playing with it.
The packaging indicates this is appropriate for ages 5 and up. This is due to the four missiles that launch from helmet (two on each side). With the press of a button, the missiles fly off directly ahead about 8 feet or so. Again, I haven’t seen the movie, but having small projectiles shooting from the helmet is very much the type of thing Iron Man is capable of.
Hasbro has crafted a hefty piece of kit with the Arc FX Mission Mask. The heavy duty plastic should hold up to plenty of use. Pressing the buttons on the side of the helmet mask initiates sound effects (of the missiles launching) or a few other Iron Man quotes “Repulsor flight systems, activate!” or J.A.R.V.I.S. saying something about power levels.
A red light at the top of the helmet mask lights up when the buttons are pressed, and the blueish plastic eye pieces light up as well (due to cleverly placed lights inside). The straps on the back are a bit complicated for younger folk and it took a couple of moments for even myself. Once figured out, however, the adjustable straps fit snugly and provide a nice fit.
As for the missiles, they lasted about a day. If you put them away somewhere the Iron Man 3 Arc FX Mission Mask actually winds up being a fun thing to play with for almost literally the whole family. My very soon to be 3 year old loved running around the house wearing the mask pretending to be a super hero (this was after “losing” the missiles).
I’m not sure $25 is the right price, but for $20 I’d certainly pick it up if you have a super hero fan in your house. Then again, the difference of $5 is pretty small. And as with all the Iron Man 3 toys, Robert Downey Jr. does not provide the voice for the Arc FX Mission Mask.
