The Bubble Guppies return to DVD with Sunny Days, an interesting, if seasonally appropriately named, collection of episodes. If you’re not familiar with the show, it’s a semi-science based educational show on Nickelodeon for the Nick Jr. block of programming. The core group is a school of merpeople, their teacher Mr. Grouper, and the Bubble Puppy as they explore the world around them.
Here’s the episode list:
The Beach Ball
The Legend Of Pinkfoot
Bring On The Bugs
The Sizzling Scampinis
Bubble Duckies
Gup, Gup, And Away
While you would think with a title like Bubble Guppies: Sunny Days and the first episode titled The Beach Ball you would expect all the episodes to be about summer activities. Well, it’s not summer vacation, but there are things such as camping, going on an airplane (yes, under the sea, it’s a preschool cartoon, get over it) and the circus, and a parade, and other activities that often do get associated with summer.
These are the full episodes, as the show itself is a “full” half hour (with commercial interruptions and credits) so we get over 2 hours of content here. This is a far sight better than other recent Nick Jr. releases, such as the way Dora The Explorer is headed.
With a mixture of some clever writing and plenty of charm, Bubble Guppies is pretty fun. While I can’t watch a whole DVD in one sitting (that theme song sticks in your head) the younger set will enjoy it. It’s nice to at least expose kids to some of the stuff in Bubble Guppies, even if it isn’t as directly educational as other programs, it’s a heck of a lot more positive than many other offerings.
