Let’s try this again, shall we?
The day after I got back from Belgium, which will be it’s own blog post (I want to try to get a bit more “current”), it was decided we should try to head out to Carrick-A-Rede and try getting across the rope bridge. Again. the weather was nicer and heading out earlier in the day also meant possibly less people to contend with.
The sun was out and after breakfast we packed some snacks and headed out.
Arriving at Carrick-A-Rede it was clear several others had a similar idea. Unlike last time there wasn’t the went blowing, so we were almost assured to get across.
Only this time there were not just other tourists and visitors, but two full bus loads of tour groups.
So we hiked out to the rope bridge. Again.
Because it was nicer weather, and perhaps because the kids, particularly Xavier, had gotten used to being active in Ireland, there was less complaining about the hike. It was an easy hike, but a half mile or so, probably longer.
Then we had to wait in line for the rope bridge.
One group of young women (early 20s I think) held up the line going across, which in turn held up those waiting to cross back, by individually stopping and taking photos of each other on the rope bridge. Seriously, don’t hold up the line. It’s rude.
Ah, but it was worth it.
The views from the other side of the Carrick-A-Rede rope bridge are fantastic. Actually, the island on the other side, which used to be an active fishing harbor, is a great place for a picnic. Fortunately we happened to have a few items to munch on.
I wasn’t so interested when I came to Ireland 3 years ago, and I may not have been terribly interested even this trip, but I am very glad we went.
Afterwards we headed back into Ballycastle vie Kinbane Castle which is just outside the town. The path to the castle is closed, unfortunately due to weather damage. Back in town the kids played on the community playground by the beach then on to Bonamargy Friary. I’ll post those pictures separately.
