So how is Xavier’s first year in preschool going? We’re a couple of weeks in and as a dad blogger I think there’s some sort of legal requirement to talk about the kid’s school once a month of your dad blogger license gets revoked.
Every day Xavier asks if he can run ahead. We drop off August, Déla and Ciárán off where everybody lines up before school, which begins at 8:20. Well, actually 8:30, but the lines go in at 8:20 and attendance is taken so the classes are ready to go at 8:30. The door to the preschool doesn’t open until 8:20, so Xavier is the last to be dropped off.
Xavier almost always runs ahead, stopping about 3/4 of the way, turns around, and wants a hug and kiss goodbye before bolting the rest of the way to preschool. He comes out every day with a smile and enjoys his time there.
Last night, however, we got a different story.
We heard that Mrs. X yelled at him. Then we heard Mrs. Y got angry for some reason, but didn’t yell at him. Then he hit Mrs. Y – because he was a monster. Then he was Xavier again and was a good boy.
I asked about these incidents as I dropped him off. The teachers there looked puzzled and had no idea what I was referring to. No such incidents occurred. Mrs. X may have given some sort of correction, but nothing that she actually remembers, and no yelling. Mrs. Y looked baffled when I mentioned Xavier hitting her.
Xavier loves going to preschool. I have no doubt the teachers are telling the more factual end of this story. Puzzled? Yeah, but I’m going to focus on the positives here.
