Ciárán had 8 teeth by the time he was 8 months old. Seriously. It was a little weird. None of our other kids had that many teeth at that time.
Now at the age of 6 he’s losing his teeth. Literally.
Thursday Ciárán lost a tooth. At school. As in actually lost it in the school’s garden bed. A sort of accidental planting if you will. He was, as you might expect, a little upset.
The plan he and August came up with was to wad up a little bit of paper into the shape of a tooth, put some red pen on it (for blood) and try and trick the tooth fairy. It was a rather convincing piece of paper. I do wish I got a picture of it.
Unfortunately the tooth fairy wasn’t fooled (*ahem* forgot) and Ciárán came downstairs Friday morning rather upset. I said maybe the paper just didn’t fool the tooth fairy and we needed to try something else.
One trick we used when Kyle was a youngster was finding a small rock and covering it with white out. Ciárán happened to have a couple of sunflower seeds from the school’s garden he wanted to plant. It was agreed to sacrifice one and use it as a substitute to hopefully fool the tooth fairy this time.
Thankfully it worked. Saturday morning he came down clutching his dollar and had a big grin on his face.
Sunday, another tooth came out. Only this time it got lost in the house. We really can’t find it. It’s somewhere under the couch (we think) in the TV area (which is in the basement and the kids’ main play area, so you can imagine the clutter of toys for little things to get lost in).
2 teeth in less than a week. We’re taking bets on how long it takes him to lose those first 8 teeth.
So instead of trying to trick the tooth fairy this time, instead of pushing his luck, Ciárán decided to go with a more direct and honest approach. You might remember a similar event occurring a few months ago.
Ciárán said what he wanted written down and I dutifully wrote it. Every word is his. I asked him a couple of times about that last sentence, but he was adamant.
Fortunately the tooth fairy appreciated Ciárán’s honesty and rewarded him with another dollar.
