There is a list of things my kids love. Phineas And Ferb. Super heroes. Ice cream. LEGOs. Also on that list are the Star Wars and Angry Birds franchises. When it was found out these two things were combined a bit of pandemonium broke out in the house. Over time things calmed down, but the rabid devotion to Angry Birds Star Wars held true. Then we got the playsets a while back and my kids went nuts.
Angry Birds Star Wars II was a game I resisted. How far down this rabbit hole was I going to go? Well, apparently, quite a bit. Hasbro sent along some Angry Birds Star Wars II Telepods. And as predicted, my kids went nuts.
I got two items. The first was the Angry Birds Star Wars Telepods Figure Pack. This included a Luke Skywalker and Emperor Palpatine inspired figures. Apparently the Figure Packs come with random figures, so you’ll need to shop around to collect them all. These are cool extra figures that can fit in with the other Angry Birds Star Wars playsets, but it is their ability to be used in the Angry Birds Star Wars II game that is their main selling point.
On the phone two of my kids fought over having access to the figures to get them to plug into the game. It’s a relatively simple process, at least once you know what you’re doing. It did take a few minutes to get everything situated and figured out. There’s a clear plastic square cylinder players place on the forward facing camera of their device playing Angry Birds Star Wars II which then adds that bird or pig into the arsenal to use.
How effective is this? Well, since the game allows for purchase of characters as the game progresses, this was especially helpful for the kids as they could use as much help with each level as they can get. Often you’ll get to add in a character that normally wouldn’t be in that level.
If you’re playing Angry Birds Star Wars II you’ll understand how some of these abilities can be very helpful in certain. If you’re not playing Angry Birds Star Wars II then you won’t necessarily be as interested in the separate figure packs. In that case you’ll be more interested in the other full playsets.
The Angry Birds Star Wars Telepods Vehicle Pack we received was the Endor Chase Set. The bricks are brown to replicate the forest logs and a couple of speeder bikes are there to set up on them to aid the pigs defensiveness. Adding to the fun here is a speeder bike for the birds. Players pull back on it launching it over a ramp and hopefully into the pigs.
All of my kids enjoyed this but my 3 year old was the one taken the most with it initially. He was thrilled pulling back the speeder bike and having it demolish the best laid defenses of the pigs. Finally he could participate (with a bit of guidance) with his older siblings.
A couple of days later I came across my 10 year old in a corner of the house playing with the toys. What he had done was combine sets to create a large and intricate battle between bird and pig. Eventually my 6 year old came along and the two of them incorporated nearly every Angry Birds Star Wars related physical item we have in the house in their epic battle.
They may not be their initial “go to” toy but don’t you dare think of taking and Angry Birds Star Wars toys from the kids. The amount of play time you’ll see is well worth the price.
While they like playing Angry Birds Star Wars II on my Kindle, they have switched to using my phone to play the game because it has a forward facing camera which is how the telepods work. I might have to ask Hasbro to supply me with an extra battery for my phone.
