Finding periodicals for your kids to be interested in can be a challenge. Sure there are comics, but when it comes to more advanced reading there aren’t as many as one might think. My 10 year old son looks forward to each issue of Boys Life and my 8 year old daughter has Discovery Girls and Sparkle World coming to our mailbox.
Looking to branch out what my kids look forward to in the mailbox, I see an offer from Sports Illustrated Kids. Now my children aren’t the most sporty and athletic. August has the coordination of a drunk moose, but still loves to play baseball. Déla does gymnastics. They both have weekly swim lessons, enjoy attending professional sporting events and put up with my obsession with the World Cup.
Frankly, I think this magazine is going to be a solid offering for them. It will hit their reading and interest levels as well as offer up exposure to more stuff other than what their dad is interested in.
Sports Illustrated Kids has an offer right now where if you get one gift subscription for $19.99 you can get a second for $5. Here’s the link.
Sure, some people may think giving a magazine subscription is a lousy gift. We gave my daughter Moshi Monster Magazine for her birthday and she loves it. Got grandkids? Nieces and nephews? This might be a really good alternative to yet another toy or video game.
Subscribers also get access to the tablet edition, which is nice. That way siblings can share the same issue – at the same time. It also allows for more ways to read.
Think about it. 12 issues for $19.99 and a second subscription for $5. That’s 2 gifts for $25.
[Yes, I am being compensated for this – we will receive a subscription to the magazine. Frankly, I’m glad because I want something else in the mailbox for my kids to look forward to. Note the lack of marketing paragraphs in this post. You can pretty much tell this is all my own words and opinion. I wouldn’t recommend something without believing in it. I believe in reading. And gifts.]
