2 Guns (Blu-ray)

2 guns bluWe are dropped into the middle of a case that appears to involve a Mexican cocaine smuggling ring. Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington are either criminals or undercover agents, and it’s not clear which is which if that is the case. Add to this a bank job that adds a couple of surprises. 2 Guns is a story meant to have a series of twists and turns, surprises and what have you, but essentially it’s a straight ahead caper film that unfolds about as predictably as you might expect.

I enjoyed the film, but it wasn’t particularly good. It wasn’t bad, just, well, enjoyable enough. Adding to the fun is Bill Paxton as a cop that appears to have an ulterior motive for finding the two protagonists. The bulk of the film deals with Trench and Stig (Washington and Wahlberg, respectively) trying to clean up the mess as well as figure out who the other is.

2 Guns is directly as successful as the viewer enjoys the lead actors. If you don’t like Denzel Washington or Mark Wahlberg there isn’t much to be had here. The plot is meant to be intricate, but it’s not. In many ways it almost plays out like a modern television procedural.

Oh, and there’s Edward James Olmos. He’s always fun to watch.

The thing is, I could write a whole bunch of paragraphs talking further about the film, but there’s not a heckk of a lot more that needs to be said. At this point either you know if you’re interested in 2 Guns or not. It’s definitely in the “rental” territory.

Special features start off with an audio commentary. Then there are a few deleted scenes and a behind the scenes featurette.
