Every year I participate in an exercise – Beatles Week. No, it’s not like NaBloPoMo, an organized event for bloggers, but it should be. At this point I’m the only one who does it. Originally created by Mark on his personal blog in 2008 I followed suit in 2009 and have been “carrying the torch” ever since. Mark has moved on to Zwolanerd.com a great pop culture love letter and I hope he revives the series there.
As for me, I’m in the planning stages. Every year I pick a theme. My first time around I just picked song titles. In 2010 I chose North American album titles (the ones Capitol released in the 60s). For 2011 I chose songs sung by Ringo. Last year it was songs sung by George.
What will this year’s theme be?
E.P. titles
B-sides
Cover songs
Songs covered by others
Songs written by Beatles for others
Album titles
The Hamburg recordings
As I did in 2010 I will be travelling to Boston for a few days. I would like to plan my blog posts out a little better this time around. I thought about using “Back In The U.S.S.R.” as my first blog post about being back in Boston, but then I didn’t have much else to go with.
It would help if I could have a chart on the wall with available titles (songs, albums, etc.) on one sheet with a graph of what was used in previous years. I could make a spreadsheet, and I’m sure that’s what I’ll wind up doing, but it’s not the same as having something posted to look at. I’m much more tactile in that way.
I think I’m leaning towards B-sides this year.
