“You Can’t Do That”
This was the B-side to “Can’t Buy Me Love” which is a certified hit, reaching number one on several charts. Tell Me Why offers up a few different takes on the meaning of the song but states the obvious about how Lennon as the singer (and sole songwriter according to BeatleSongs) is paranoid, angry, and while admonishing his girlfriend doesn’t explode in the end, he “simply runs out of steam.”
As this goes live I’ll be in Boston. My wife and kids are still in Seattle.
I am on the other side of the continental United States with her approval. Two years ago my friend Stephen and I did this trip. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones are holding their Hometown Throwdown and we have returned.
But she is pregnant. There’s 4 small kids at home. How can you justify leaving them behind while you go off to the other side of the country?
I don’t justify it. If I didn’t have her approval I wouldn’t even think of going. The tickets to the concert are like her Christmas present to me. Well, three nights o concert, but you get the idea.
But it’s Boston, a notoriously expensive city. The plane ticket alone is pricey, let alone hotel. How can you justify THAT?
Free is good. We accumulated enough points with our credit card that I was able to cash those in and get the hotel and flight for free. Seriously. A free nonstop flight from Seattle to Boston and a hotel that is a block and a half away from the concert venue.
I guess I can do that.
