I’m Down (Beatles Week 2013 Day 7)

“I’m Down”

This song was written almost solely by Paul, according to BeatleSongs and recorded the same day as “Yesterday” and ultimately released as the B-side to “Help!”. Tell Me Why describes George’s solo as “his most confidently unhinged yet” and praises the song’s general rock and roll roots harkening shades of Little Richard.

We took the Christmas tree down today.

It’s beginning to look a lot less like Christmas in our house.

Sure, there’s still a virtual explosion of presents that litter random sections of the house. everything has been opened, played with or tested, worn, etc. As I type this up there’s the box of glow in the dark track on the dining room table, a friendship bracelet maker next to it, and a build your own robot device as well vying for space.

Most of the pine needles have been vacuumed up. We had to change the bag in the vacuum even. We’ll still be finding pine needles for the next six months. This is one thing I don’t really like about Christmas is the almost endless cleaning up and recovery. Alright, it’s not endless, but at times it feels like it.

And the kids are also bummed about the ending of the season. It doesn’t help that a couple of them have ear infections and are a little under the weather. It’s not like they are actively sick or anything, but just a bit of a downbeat mood.

That’s how things are in the house right now as we end 2013.
