Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Minnie-Rella is the latest DVD collection of “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” episodes. This Disney Juniro series is not only the flagship for the channel but it serves to help keep the Disney mascot active and in the forefront of viewers minds. It’s a decent and entertaining enough show, if a bit bizarre.
My kids will record and watch special episodes, and at various times they will watch it as it is broadcast along with other Disney Junior programs. The show is a positive semi-educational form of entertainment that may not appeal to adults but it does keep the attention of youngsters. It’s a decent show and often other characters from the Disney stable will show up alongside the usual gang (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto and in a recurring supporting role Pete).
At just under 2 hours we get a decent chunk of entertainment for the money. But what is on the disc?
There’s the titular episode, which clocks in at 30 minutes, not long enough for a double-length episode, and longer than the 24 minute typical episode. It’s weird, almost as if it were released directly to video instead of broadcast. Actually, I don’t remember the kids watching this on television, so it may not have been aired on Disney Junior.
Of course this titular episode features a (more positive) take on the classic Cinderella story. Three other episodes round out the offerings. Each of these have a sort of fairy tale element to them. In one Daisy’s pony tail grows (Rapunzel). In another Pluto is trying to rescue a princess. The final story involves a magical egg that hatches a dragon.
I would have preferred to see maybe one more episode on here, as well as having full season sets or a chronological volume style release. As it stands this is a decent video to entertain young kids looking for a bit of fairy tales mixed in with their Mickey Mouse.
As a bonus there’s a paper play set packed in with the DVD. My 6 year old son has been playing with it every other day or so.
