Well, that’s a bummer.
Bob Casale, or Bob #2, guitar and keyboard player for Devo passed away yesterday. I don’t know all of the details, heart failure at the age of 61, so here’s a link to the Rolling Stone article and if there is anything new that comes to light I’m sure it will be updated. Or at least provide a starting point.
Why am I bothering to mention this here? Because the name of the blog is taken from a Devo song. Why didn’t I make a mention of Alan Myer’s death last year? He hasn’t been in the band since 1986 or so. His passing, while sad, has less of an impact, and it happened as we were in transit to our family vacation in Ireland.
The news of Bob Casale’s passing is sad to me because the band was still active. I had been hoping to see them one more time. Heck, I’ve only seen Devo twice, and a couple of times I have had a chance to see the band but other circumstances prevented me from attending the concert.
It’s just a band, but to me Devo is more than that. Sure, he could be “replaced” but it wouldn’t be the same. Right now I only want to acknowledge the band’s impact on my life. My heart goes out to his brother Gerald Casale, another member of Devo, their families and the rest of the members of Devo.
Duty now, Bob, duty now.
