March 17. St. Patrick’s Day.
When I started these Music Monday posts I didn’t realize St. Patrick’s Day would fall on a Monday. Then I started thinking about what I would do to commemorate the event. At first I was going to post a bunch of Pogues videos. Then I thought that was cliche and thought better of it.
My next reaction was to go ahead an post about Twin Forks, which is a band I saw in Belgium. That event took place during my family’s trip to Ireland last summer. Then I thought I should just stick to Ireland.
And so we come to what should have been my initial thought on how to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day – with real Irish music.
Let’s start with The Dubliners performing “The Rocky Road To Dublin.”
Follow that with “A Nation Once Again” performed by, I think, Brian Roebuck.
Then we’ll have Finbar & Eddie Fury perform the reel “Pigeon On The Gate”
Mick Maloney then kicks in with “Reel On Mandolin”
Finally we’ll end it with this video of The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem singing the perennial favorite”Jug Of Punch.”
