All The School Kids

My one issue with the school my kids go to is the preschool schedule. There is morning preschool and then a “pre-K” program in the afternoon. Essentially it’s a two year program, which is fine, but separating them out and not having all-day preschool gets to be rather inconvenient. But that’s a different topic from what I want to post about today.

I take Xavier to his afternoon “Pre-K” which starts at noon. The way the rest of the kids schedule works out Ciaran’s first grade class is coming in from the playground headed to the restroom before going to class after lunch and August and Dela’s fourth and fifth grade classes are coming out to the playground immediately after their lunch.

Sometimes I see one of the three kids as I take Xavier to school. If we get there early enough we see Ciaran as he goes into class. Sometimes I see August or Dela as I return home from dropping Xavier at preschool. Rarely I’ll get to see, if ever so briefly, two of the kids during their lunch recess break.

It’s always nice to see them. They always smile and wave and seem genuinely glad to see me and say “Hello” or some such. I love being able to just check in with them, smile, wave, and let them know I’m thinking of them. It’s always a nice little treat.

Yesterday I noticed Dela left her glasses at home (she is still getting used to wearing them more than just for reading). Since I knew she would be around during the time I would be taking Xavier to preschool I would make an extra effort to find her and giver her the glasses. Interestingly, I found her almost immediately. That doesn’t usually happen. Still, I was very glad to have found her so easily and she was grateful to have her glasses.

As I was turning to take Xavier in to preschool I saw the first grade coming out from the restroom. I decided to wait 30 more seconds and was rewarded by seeing Ciaran who smiled and waved at us.

For those not keeping track, that was each of the three older kids in school I got to see as I was taking Xavier in to preschool. And it brought a bigger than usual smile to my face.
