Throwing Down The Gauntlet (Again)

2014 nablopomoThis is not my first time participating in National Blog Post Month, or NaBloPoMo. Initially started in 2006 it has been spearheaded by BlogHer since 2011 for every month but November is still the “main” focus for NaBloPoMo for most of us. Yes, even dad bloggers participate. At least this one has (and does).

Why do I do this?

Essentially to make myself a better blogger. A few years ago I was struggling to come up with a couple of posts a week. Having a concerted effort to get myself on a regular posting schedule has helped me become a more consistent blogger. Now I am working on the actual content. While I have improved there is still a long way for me to go.

I know some of the posts I write will suck. That’s just a reality – real life will get in the way and I am going to wind up scrambling to get something, anything, posted. Some days will be like this. Other days I’ll write and post something that will be worthwhile. Hopefully the more I participate in this exercise, the more I blog, the stronger my “blogging muscles” will become and the number of posts that outright suck will be fewer and further in between.

Do I care that I’m about the only dad blogger participating? Not really. It would be nice if more of them did participate. I didn’t get into blogging, however, because I was inspired by dad bloggers, but it was the mom bloggers that had the organized community as well as the visibility. Sure, there were a few, but they weren’t nearly as numerous and organized. So my inspiration was the moms (some of whom have sadly stopped blogging altogether).

Things have changed drastically since I started, for instance there are a heck of a lot more dad bloggers and they are getting a lot more organized. The number of them participating in NaBloPoMo is, unfortunately,  paltry at best. The ratio to mom bloggers to dad bloggers participating in the exercise versus the ratio of actual (active) bloggers is laughable. That’s another reason I do it. Somebody’s got to represent the dads.

A blog post every day for a month. I am not going to include any of the reviews I post nor any posts I write elsewhere. Just 30 regular blog posts. Right here. On my blog.
