Baby It’s You (Beatles Week 2014 Day 6)

Baby It’s You (Beatles Week 2014 Day 6)

“Baby It’s You” wasn’t the only song by The Shirelles covered by The Beatles on their debut album. This was an unusual move for the group, because they would cover the same artist over time, usually live (look at the two BBC albums as well as Anthology for examples) but only twice did they cover the same artist on the same album. Both times featured Ringo on vocals for one of the tracks. This is not that time. Tell Me Why praises “Lennon’s soulfully mannered delivery. BeatleSongs little to say about this song other than the most basic facts of who played what, that it was a Shirelles cover, and part of The Beatles live repertoire in 1962 and 1963.

I have two things about our baby to share. The first is how he is learning to crawl. I probably should have held this video for a day when I was talking about The Pretenders.

You can get on me all you want about how this video is shot in portrait instead of landscape, but the action was vertically oriented so that’s what we got.

The other topic on hand currently is sleep. Well, the lack of it, actually. When I wake up I have a very difficult time getting back to sleep. Usually it’s not a problem. Over the weekend it was a different matter.

Today is Tuesday. Friday night Tevye simply didn’t sleep very well. He was up constantly. Not like 3 or 4 times, but something like once or twice an hour – even three times an hour a couple of times. He just never fully settled.

Saturday night was pretty much the same thing. I could list off the times at which he got up but it would read like a bus terminal or subway timetable.

Sunday was marginally better. I manged to get about 5 hours of sleep, which is about as much as I got the previous two nights combined. Tevye was up at irregular yet frequent intervals until 11pm – when I just took him. Between 11 and 2am I sat with him on the cough in the front room in the dark, trying to get him back to sleep. I got perhaps an hour and half of sleep during this time on the couch with Tevye on my chest, who also got about the same amount of sleep. He finally went down about 2 and stayed asleep until 5 – the first real solid sleep he had since Friday.

We got some different formula, stuff formulated to be gentle on the tummy. We also dialed back on the solid food we were feeding him. Not only the amount but the type of food. What Tevye was going through could be attributed to a number of factors, such as sleep regression, generic stomach virus, allergic reaction to a type of food, or even something else. It took a while but by eliminating as many of the variables as we could hopefully we could figure out what the problem was.tevye dec 2014 2

Monday night he slept. He got up once, which is normal, and settled right back down. Waking up this morning, Tuesday, I felt strange. It was an unfamiliar feeling, this of being well-rested. Having gotten 7 hours of solid sleep I felt ready for pretty much anything.

Even a baby learning to crawl.
