Included in this DVD are two hair clips featuring the supporting character’s visage. These pack-ins with the various Disney Junior DVDs are nice, but shouldn’t sway your decision to purchase. Actually, I’d rather see Disney stop putting extraneous stuff in with the DVDs and focus on putting more content on the DVDs.
There. That’s out of the way. I hate complaining about these DVDs because I think Disney Junior is making some of the best programming for young kids these days. “Doc McStuffins” is an excellent example of this. Not only is the title character a girl, but she is a minority (an issue that never comes up, it simply “is”) who aspires to be a doctor (like her mother). Then there’s her stay-at-home dad.
With this latest DVD release – Cuddle Me Lambie – we get five episodes from the first and second season. Much of the focus is on Lambie stories, but really, one of the things that makes this show work is the whole cast of characters Doc enters her office (the play structure in the back yard) and several toys come to life to help her as he practices her craft of healing other toys that are ailing. Think Toy Story in reverse.
Some of the episode plots on the DVD include a story about Lambie being jealous when another toy takes her spot on Valentine’s Day, a couple of segments that feature Doc’s younger brother Donny, and Lambie getting jealous again about not getting taken to school. Here is the full episode list:
My Huggy Valentine/Dusty Bear
Awesome Guy’s Awesome Arm/Lamb In A Jam
Kirby And The King/Bubble Monkey, Blow Your Nose
A Day Without Cuddles/Collide-O-Scope
Mirror, Mirror On My Penguin/Hide And Eek
Look, “Doc McStuffins” is a positive show for kids of all ages. There’s a protagonist which is setting high standards for all girls as well as setting an example for boys. The group dynamics are wonderful jumping points to have discussions with your children about a variety of topics. Any of the DVDs are a good introduction to the series, including this latest one. Go ahead, pick it up.
