Watch the special feature first. Seriously.
Broadcast in October LEGO DC Super Heroes – Batman: Be-Leaguered was watched multiple times after it was recorded by my kids. For a couple of weeks it seemed that was the only thing they would watch. Now that special is included as a special feature to its sequel LEGO DC Super Heroes – Justice League vs. Bizarro League.
LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League vs. Bizarro League starts out with Bizarro showing up in Metropolis to help save the city. Of course things go wrong, and Superman finds a place for Bizarro to live without bothering the people of Earth. A sequence of events then takes place and the long and short of it all is the Justice League gets “duplicated” by the same process that created Bizarro.
At a little under an hour the running time allows for the story and characters to breath a bit. Things aren’t overly rushed which is nice. The humor for both items is sort of juvenile, but that works for the LEGO versions of the characters. It’s a shame though the first show, Be-Leaguered, is sort of presented after the fact as a special feature rather than sequentially. Be-Leaguered does come before Justice League vs. Bizarro League.
Both stories leave the door open for more stories in this universe. That is not a bad thing. There is a lot of good humor and adventure here that is definitely appealing to the whole family. And since this is LEGO any liberties taken with the characters feels “safe” to anybody trying to compare the comic counterparts.
A featurette looking at Bizarro as a character and how he fits in with this story and some of the decisions made in making is a decent enough length. Then there is a “blooper” reel for Be-Leaguered. An exclusive LEGO figure, Bizarro Batman is included as well.
