Gun Woman (Blu-ray)

gun womanIt’s a heck of a cold open for Gun Woman. I actually had to start the film over a couple of times to make sure the film was starting correctly. It is creepy, disgusting and depraved. This is a film that is very much not for everybody. It is billed as an action film, and it is, but there is an erotic component to it, and it is a bit graphic.

After the cold open we get a lot of exposition, during which many may want to shut the film off as it can get highly uncomfortable. There was a moment about 20 minutes into the film I paused it and had to walk away. The setup for the action is a bit gratuitous in its depravity. There is another scene about 40 minutes in that I simply had to skip through.

When the action does start it is good, though there is a very twisted component to it that is a result from the (lengthy) setup. And the ending was… well, I didn’t actually see it coming. And after the end credits there is a tease for a second film.

Bonus features start off with two audio commentaries. One is in Japanese with English subtitles and features writer/director Kurando Mitsutake and lead actress Asami. The second features Mitsutake by himself and is in English. I did not listen to either commentary as I couldn’t watch the film again. Then there is a making of featurette that runs almost 50 minutes.
