Cartoon Network broadcast “LEGO Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles” in 2013, a three-part series that took (as one might expect) a comical view of the Star Wars universe. In 2014 Disney XD broadcast “Star Wars: The New Yoda Chronicles”, a four-part series that changes the name slightly in order for Disney, which now owns Star Wars, to keep the distribution rights and broadcast it on a network it owns. The content, however, is a continuation of that first series.
What are you expecting? This is LEGO Star Wars. This isn’t canon, nor is it meant to be taken seriously. Really, this is a series geared towards kids, and much of the humor is directed as such. That said, there are enough references and call backs to the films that more grown up viewers will enjoy sitting through this at least once.
With four half-hour episodes stripped of their commercials we blast through the DVD in just over an hour and a half. And helping the whole thing breeze by are Anthony Daniels and Billy Dee Williams reprising their roles. Everybody else does a great job, but it was fun to hear these two in their roles. A lot of other characters show up, Han & Chewbacca, Jar Jar, Cad Bane, Leia, and so many more. In a way I’m a little surprised they stuffed as many characters in as they did.
Each episode sort of stands alone and is also connected. I know that’s a lame description, but I want to keep it sort of vague for spoiler reasons. You do not need to have watched the earlier episodes or DVD release to enjoy this.
Only one special feature, which is an alternate ending to the fourth (and final – so far) episode. Unlike many alternate endings, this truly is an alternate ending and is worth checking out.
