I have already looked at these movies individually. The question is whether or not you have all of them. If not, do you need this?
The short answer is – yes.
My Little Pony has become a great franchise with this offshoot starting out as a weird idea and finding a life of its own. What we have here are three individual DVDs of the movies in one easy slipcase with a lenticular cover with Twilight Sparkle in both equestrian and human forms. If you don’t “get” it I’m sure you know somebody who would.
My Little Pony: Equestria Girls
When her crown is stolen Princess Twilight Sparkle pursues the thief through a portal which winds up taking her to another dimension. Here we get the classic “fish out of water” plot with the usual “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic” characterizations.
My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks
We return to the human side of things only this time we have a battle of the bands, which means musical numbers. Retaining the ties to the pony dimensional side of things are some exiles who exhibit bad behavior and the showdown takes place in the talent show.
My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Friendship Games
Twilight Sparkle returns to much more prominence here in this athletic competition but of course friendship rules as it always does. Some decent twists to the formula and we are seeing this series of films becoming its own franchise.
Yes, all the bonus features from the DVDs made it over to this release. Really what Shout Factory did was simply take the three different DVD releases and package them together.
There isn’t a heck of a lot left to be said about this set. Either you are a fan of the franchise, know somebody who is, or you haven’t made it this far down. If you have one of the movies, price it out, shop around, but you will want all three of them, and this set makes it handy to do so.
