This past Saturday the entire Cub Scout pack went on a hike. Well, it was scheduled as a pack outing, but only two other dens were represented by one person each. This wound up being pretty much my den’s outing with a couple of others, really. This was fine, as a hike is one of the requirements for the Wolf Cub rank.
It was a rainy day, as you would expect for the Seattle area. Thankfully not too rainy.
We drove out to the Denny Creek trailhead, checked our compasses to see which general direction we would be hiking, then set off.
One of the requirements for this hike is to record two interesting things you have never seen before. While it was a bit rainy with low clouds, there was still plenty to see. At one point we hiked underneath Interstate 90.
I don’t know about you but I find that sort of interesting.
I’m sure the requirement is probably meant to be more “nature” oriented, but frankly this was a sight I had never seen before. Sure, the two large overturned trees with roots sticking straight up in the air was an interesting sight, as was the cairn, but walking underneath a major freeway like this was something I had never seen before.
We hiked … well, I’m not sure just how far we hiked in. Just over a mile I think. When we got to the point where the trail intersected with the creek we decided to turn back instead of traverse the creek. It was enough for our group anyway without trying anything remotely dangerous.
Before turning back to hike out it was time for a group picture. There are a number of boys from Ciaran’s den, plus one WEBELO and one Tiger Cub who made the trip.
After hiking back we had our lunch before heading back to the city.
A bit wet, but it was a good day.
