This past weekend was Winter Camp – the first time August did not go since he is now a Boy Scout. Well, I could have taken him if I had registered him as a Den Chief, but it was nice just having Ciáran and me there.
Sadly the snow began to melt the week before we arrived, but we both still had fun, beginning with the traditional dinner on the road at Red Robin.
We arrived late Friday and there was some snow on the ground, but not much. It pretty much all melted away by Saturday afternoon.
There are a number of activities available and this year saw the return of BB guns. Last year they sat down to shoot, this year they were prone.
This is my favorite shot from camp. Ciáran was asking why the ground was smoking as if it was on fire. I told him it was just the sunlight heating the moisture on the ground. He watched the moisture rise for several minutes, just transfixed.
Archery was a hit. While there were no targets this year the backboards are the same as the last two camps Ciáran attended.
This time around all of his arrows hit their target – well, the target being the backboard. That’s a heck of a lot better than he has done before.
He was really proud of himself, and he should be.
Ah, crafts. This year he worked on the keel boat kit.
Winter Camp wasn’t without its bumps (he lost his neckerchief slider) but overall it was a massive success.
