To say Buddy Holly was an influence on The Beatles would be an understatement. That more of his songs were not recorded (and released) by the group is a bit surprising.
The recording we have is actually of The Quarrymen, the group that would go on to be The Beatles. At this point in the band’s career there wasn’t much of a bass player, John and Paul were both playing rhythm guitar and George was newly added on a few months previous to the recording as lead guitarist. The drummer is Colin Hanton.
This is, I believe, the first recording of John, Paul, and George.
I love Buddy Holly myself. He did so much with his short career, and offered up a varied group of songs and arrangements before his untimely death. It would have been interesting to see what he would have done even within the next five years and to see if The Beatles would have been nearly as musically groundbreaking throughout their career as they were had Buddy Holly lived.
Well, yesterday certainly was a day.
We actually got more sleep than expected, there wasn’t the massive meltdown (though there were some tears, sure) and no major fights.
As I currently type this specific line in my blog post it is 8:13 a.m. the day after Christmas. Half the household is still asleep. Heck, everybody slept in – including myself, where I didn’t wake up until almost 7 a.m.
It was a successful Christmas, and now the cleanup begins.
