Beatles Week 2018 Day 7 – You Know What To Do

George didn’t get to contribute much, especially in the early days of The Beatles. He sang lead vocals on every album, but most of them were covers. on the debut album he sang one cover and one original (written by John and Paul) then his first original contribution on the next album (“Don’t Bother Me”) along with two other covers. This was followed by Harrison singing lead on another Lennon-McCartney song on the following album, an album it should be noted that didn’t have a vocal turn by Ringo. One cover on the next album, then Harrison got to sing another of his originals on the band’s fifth album (actually, he sand two originals).

Each subsequent album would have at least one song by George on it from them on out.

I’m not sure why this didn’t make the cut. What we hear is a demo and with a bit of work, I think mostly with the musical structure, it could have been a fine tune. Certainly not single material, but at least as good as many of the filler tracks on the albums – perhaps even taking the place of a cover.

“You Know What To Do”

This trip to Boston has been… different.

Currently the federal government is experiencing a partial shutdown. This means many things are closed. One of those is the J.F.K. Presidential Library, which is something I had planned on visiting this trip. Now that I have to count on both hands the number of times I have been to Boston I am running out of “new” things to do, and this was a place I had not been to before.

Fortunately the trip out there wasn’t a total waste. There are two other places very close by that are very much worth visiting.

First there is the Commonwealth Museum (and Massachusetts Archives). This is a completely free place, and while not large it does house a few stellar pieces of American history from colonial and revolutionary times.

Then there is the Edward Kennedy Institute For The United States Senate. If you have any interest at all in how our government operates this is a place you have to visit. There is a full scale replica of the Senate chamber and a number of activities and interactive exhibits. Senator Kennedy’s office is even reproduced.

A number of places along the Freedom Trail are also impacted by the government shutdown. Some people and agencies are still working but not getting paid.

Come on, this isn’t right. Especially if as a news report just came in that all cost of living increases are being frozen. Our government can’t even do right by its own workers?

Oh well. I knew what to do. I shopped for jeans.
