Taken from the album Hard Day’s Night, written for but not used in the film, the song is largely forgettable in the overall pantheon of Beatles tunes. It closes the album, a bit of a downbeat number, sort of a lamentation, something John did well, especially during this period. While it doesn’t stand out among all the great Beatles songs, it definitely showcases a step forward in the songwriting,
Listen closely and you can tell the band did this in a bit of a rush. The vocal harmonies do not match up completely. It’s not a poorly done song, but it is one of their weaker performances, and even then it is still very good.
It’s been a while since I have done some posting with any regularity. It’s been a bit longer since I’ve done my annual Beatles Week. Life, as you can imagine, has been crazy, and I’m not just referring to having three teenagers in the house or the COVID-19 pandemic.
Because it has been so long I am very out of practice. How out of practice? I’m glad you asked (and not just because it allows me to put in another line of filler here to pad out this current post).
I spent a good portion of today working on a blog post that I’m going to have to post tomorrow. It has a good deal of text, but it also has pictures and inserting the pictures under multiple formats is challenging when you don’t remember how to do it, and when the interface has been updated.
While I am committed to returning to blogging, I am also committed to this tradition. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as easy to jump back into doing as I had hoped. This means the post I was planning for today is going to have to be held for tomorrow and this one is going up in it’s place.
But, as John and Ah-Nold both said, “I’ll be back.”
