Beatles Week 2021: What Goes On? (Day 3)

Beatles Week 2021: What Goes On? (Day 3)

“What Goes On?” appeared on 1965’s Rubber Soul, sung by Ringo, but was initially written in 1963 and was going to possibly be recorded and included on the album With The Beatles or as possibly a B-side during that era. Mostly written by Paul, with heavy contributions by John, it also does include a small contribution by Ringo giving him his first songwriting credit. At least in the final released version.

Apparently Paul recorded a demo of the song in 1963. I’d like to hear that.

OOF!

It’s been a while since I have posted with any regularity. Getting this post (as I alluded to in yesterday’s) was tougher than I thought it would be. I truly hope to be able to post with more regularity, and relearning how to do this isn’t helping.

Anyway, on to the actual post.

Now that Grace, our youngest, is in Kindergarten, this is the first time in 15 years I don’t have a small child at home during the day, and you would think I would have a lot more time during the day to do some blogging, but that just isn’t quite the case.

Grace is now 5 years old, thriving and enjoying the heck out of school.

Tevye, age 7, is in first grade. He has done some Little League and begun to do Irish dance.

Xavier is 11, continues doing Irish dance and Cub Scouts during his 5th grade year.

At 14 Ciaran doesn’t want his picture taken or posted without specific permission. He is in 8th grade and we finally got a formal diagnosis of High Functioning Level 1 Autism, more for help in high school and possibly college than anything else. During the course of the pandemic he has drawn back from activities but is eager to get back into Scouts outdoor happenings.

Déla is now 16 and a junior exploring the idea of where to go after high school. She has traveled to New Orleans as part of a group to help rebuild from Hurricane Katrina (yes, that is still a thing that needs to happen) as well as New York City for a week for a medicine education seminar at St. John’s University. Both of those trips were without her family and an absolute adventure. She continues with Irish dance, and this year participated in two teams that placed, so she has earned her first regional awards.

Jessie has had the longest journey since I have regularly blogged last. You might remember her as August (as of this typing I still need to go change and update the “About Me” page of this website), is 18 years old and a senior. How much of a journey? Well, she attempted suicide a year and a half ago, which as you can imagine led to a lengthy period of probably the lowest point in our family as a while. I say that not to garner sympathy, but to illustrate how far she has come because she was accepted into college and looks to be going to Linfield University (in McMinnville, Oregon). It’s been a heck of a trajectory change. And she is still playing the trombone, picking up an extra “zero period” Jazz Band class before school.

The three teenagers got confirmed, the older two have their drivers license now, SAT, PSAT, a couple of overnight camping trips, the usual “life” stuff, really.

We did get two new kittens, and that’s been a whole other adventure. The older two cats don’t particularly care for them. They are siblings, from the same litter, so that’s a big bonus.

I hope to get over to that “About me” page and get it updated before Beatles Week is over, but I’m not going to make any promises. Just getting these 8 posts up under the deadline is going to be difficult enough. Back tomorrow with more – at least that’s the plan.
